'Five lands' is the literal translation of how Italians call this spectacular part of the northern coastline just south of Genoa. A fascinating area of the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terre's history defending its countrymen is even more exciting.
Pirates were a major threat during the middle ages. The most notorius came sneaking up from northern African coasts and raised havoc along the sandy beaches outlining the Italian boot, ransacking towns and villages along the way. The Genoan Dukes joined with the French to fight against these Barbary Coast rebels by supplying troops, archers, and fortifying their shoreline defense. And so the five villages of the Cinque Terre - Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza, Corniglia, and Monterosso al Mare - put on display ruins of forts and castles which have been bombarded and rebuilt throughout Genoa's glorious history. There are many a fairytale of pirates, princes and damsels in distress still whispered amongst the inhabitants and when you hike along the 'via dell'amore' - the pathway to love - between Riomaggiore and Manarola you feel part of that adventurous past and experience the magic in every romantic nook along the way.
Your Wedding in the Cinque Terre takes place in an unmatched setting that will take your breath away and create an everlasting memory for years to come!
